Hi there, maybe I'm missing something really obvious, but I dont't understand how to use the shortcuts that start with the ALT key, like ALT + D for cloning an object.
The alt key opens the menu bar, so hitting ALT + D opens the entry "Datei" since I'm using the German localization.
Is it just because of the localization? Are there any workarounds (other than changing the language)?
I don't know much about the German location settings, but you can change your keyboard shortcuts. On the Edit menu, click on Preferences, and a pop up window will open. At the left hand side of this window, click on 'Interface', then select Keyboard Shortcuts. You can change your options there.
A reference to the Alt key, when pressed alone, will indeed open menu bar. When pressed and held in the manner of the shift key, other actions are possible.

As I said, that does not work. Pressing and holding ALT and D simultaneosly opens the "Datei" (=German for "File") hierarchy of the menu bar. Obviously the localization interferes with the keys here, I think I will use the English version of Inksape in the future.
Meanwhile z3z's advice is the solution.ย I just reassigned the shortcut to ALT + ร. Since "ร" is not in the menu bar that key works.
It would be nice to have some warning in Windows, or a way to disable the Alt+key opening the menu bar completely. Because at the moment, users have no idea why Alt+D is failing to act as the shortcut suggests it should.
