Beginners' Questions Setting the direction of a mesh...

    Hello!

It's possible to rotate a mesh, right? Just rotate the object the mesh belongs to. But is it possible to rotate the mesh solely, without rotating the object? If the objective would be to set a geometrical direction of the mesh, similar to the way you can set the direction of a gradient?

Sounds perhaps silly, but I'd enable in selector tool the option move  gradients with object, set a rotation to the object, disable the rotation and set the exact inverse rotation.

No, not silly at all. Even though that's a solution, it's viable for a few times but will quickly become awkward when dealing with a greater number of objects that need fine-tuning. I can tell because that is what I've done a few times myself, I was thinking there must be a better way...Nevertheless, thanks for your input.

To me, the biggest problem is that generally the meshs gradient's shape fits closely to the shape it's applied, unless you played with mesh nodes and handles. If the shape is'nt a cirle, it becomes diffult to rotate the mesh separately.

You could dig in xml editor, in defs if you can modify gradient rotation trough gradientTransform property. But the problem remains the same, to me.

I'm not sure what you mean, but it sounds like you have the same issue as I have. Are you saying that you would like to interact with the mesh separately from the object it's sited on? Because if you do, that is exactly what I meant from the beginning. But I'm new to Inkscape, so fiddling around with XML files isn't the first thing I want to do after just a few hours of acquaintance with the software. Perhaps later, when I've learned all the quirks. So far, I'm just so happy over the ease with Inkscape and not having to deal with AI anymore. It was driving me crazy, really...

I made some experiments : you can add a gradientTransform property to a meshGradient, Some explanations below, I you feel ready...

As you can see, between the two mesh-filled rectangles at the end of the picture, the only variation is mesh rotation. I should have put them a stroke color for the document to be easier to understand what's going on.

You see mesh is truncated in upper left and lower right corners, and upper right and lower left corners seem empty, that's what I was pointing to in my last post.

    Hello Davi!

That was quite a work you did there. I will take a deep dive into It. Perhaps not right away. But thanks for your effort to a newbie like me.

But DAMN YOU! Now see how you got me started. Didn't I say I was just a few hours old in the Inkscape?

But seriously, I have a few quirks I have to address first.

    Until then
