I'm completely new to Inkscape and vector graphics overall so i might have missed something. I just downloaded Inkscape yesterday (v 1.2.2) and i'm running win10 64 bit.
I'm trying to design a new alphabet and i have some 30+ objects that get used intermittently, so i used the Layers and Objects dialog to hide/unhide them and select them as necessary. I believe i pressed some key on my keyboard by accident, and all my objects got sent to the shadow realm?? They're still on my screen but the layers dialog doesn't show them at all, and i can't select/hide/unhide them from that dialog. I've tried unhide, unhide all, unlocking the layers, i've tried pattern to objects etc. nothing works. I've tried closing and opening Inkscape again but it's the same, it still doesn't show any objects. When i click on the layer, at the bottom of the screen it says there's however many objects in that layer, but i can't select them. Any advice?

A screenshot at least would help immensely - but could be "shadow realm" is just View->Display Mode->Outline? If so set back to Normal.

Sorry about the no screenshots, i wasn't sure how to upload one. I hope this will do. I just tried what you suggested and it doesn't work, the objects just turn into outlines.

You´ve enabled "Switch to Layers only view" the first icon top left with the 2 horizontally bars.
