    Noob here.

    1. I've painstakingly outlined an image to remove the background and save it as an SVG.
    2. I realize there is a portion of the image that should be cropped off.
    3. When I use  Object -> Clip _> Set to crop it, the original background reappears

How do I crop this and keep my transparent background?

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael

I think you are trying to clip twice right, the first clip with the full object and the second clip with the adjustment?

In this case what's happening is that the second clip overwrites the first. What you need to do is Clip > Unset to get your outline shape back, then Path > Union with the new clipping shape. Then set this shape as the clipping object.

In Inkscape, only one shape can be set as the clipping object, and we are terrible at formatting the menus to make sense of what it will do with a given selected object.

Thank you, Martin. I found a work around, but I will certainly use this in the future. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this up for me.

    thanks again,

    Michael
