So I spent all week learning how to trace paths of an image/drawing. Still do not understand all the nuances of the boolean operations and when to use what. Through trial and error, I managed to create all the paths of Nemo (see attached). I was just about ready to break everything apart and group LIKE colors for cutting when I noticed part of the top fin did not have a path associated with it. I have tried various operations without any success. Could one of you with more experience than me attempt toΒ create this path and explain how to do it?Β
I will be cutting these parts on a laser so all adjacent paths must be in common if you know what I mean. Thank-you so much for any help you can provide. Also, if there is an easy to understand guide somewhere that better explains how to isolate paths for what I am doing, please point me in the right direction. I have watched dozens of you-tube videos and have not come across anything helpful.
I modified path164 (black path over fin), so that apex matches back of fish, then selected all and pressed X to use shapebuilder, disabled the otpion that destroys paths used to use shapebuilder and clicked on the empty fin zone to create the missing part.
David, thanks for these suggestions. I was able to extend the fin to meet the back. Found it much easier to do once I turned on snapping. However when I selected the new path using the shapebuilder tool,
it appeared to wipe all the other paths away. Don't want that. This must be what you meant when you said "disabled the otpion that destroys paths", however I cannot find that option. I am using Inkscape version 1.3.2

John
I did hide all texts and image.Β
I modified path164 (black path over fin), so that apex matches back of fish, then selected all and pressed X to use shapebuilder, disabled the otpion that destroys paths used to use shapebuilder and clicked on the empty fin zone to create the missing part.
Then I selected all and did path > flatten.Β

David, I found this option in Ver 1.4 of inkscape and it worked wonderfully. Thanks for showing me what the shapebuilder tool can do.
Problem Solved thanks to David248!
