I have been flirting with Inkscape for a while, never had much of a) Imagination b) skill to use it to the kind of level I'm using it now
I have a question, I'm using the Envelope Deformation tool, its good but there are things that I don't want moving or being deformed while I'm using it. Is there a way of making the sides don't move during deformation?
I have tried to add more nodes to the object I want to use with the Envelope Deformation tool, but the sides, left and right still gets deformed
No, you can't freeze node positions. Node movements are based on weighted distances from the envelope paths. So the top envelope path has zero influence on nodes along the bottom path, but will affect every other node. To preserve part of a shape, perhaps make a copy of the original shape, adjust the envelope, then edit the deformed and non-deformed shapes retaining what you want from each.
I did it again, this time disabled the left and right path in the envelope deformation options. This prevents the sides of the letters from getting too distorted
