Beginners' Questions LaTeX renderer not functioning in Inkscape 1.2.1 (macos)

    Dear all,

I've used Inkscape for years to make figures without problem (basic usage though). After updating my macos to Monterey 12.6, I had to download the latest version of Inkscape. I have noticed one problem to which I have not found a solution. My version was installed with the intel dmg (Inkscape-1.2.1_x86_64.dmg)

When I go to Extensions --> Render, I do find LaTeX (pdflatex) in the menu, however when I click it nothing happens. On my system, both pstoedit and pdf2svg are installed (I've read they may be needed). Has anyone had the same problem, and is there a workaround?

    Regards

Before proceeding further, I'd reset the preferences. https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/getting-back-to-square-one-and-starting-over-its-easy/

    Hi,

Thanks for the tip, but it does not change anything. In fact, I did not expect it would work, because I did a complete clean by tracking the files in ~Inkscape before reinstalling.

So it must be something else...

PS: sorry for the delay, this was my first post and I forgot to save my pwd for home and wasn't at my office yesterday

    Is it greyed-out? https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/1262

No, it is not greyed out. It is available, but when I click it goes back to the program without sending any error message, and simply nothing happens.

Btw, my menu shows directly LaTeX (pdflatex) in the Extensions --> Render menu

Don't know if this is relevant, but my version is in french.

There were some comments in the associated bug report on ensuring the Path is correct. I'd explore that avenue.

You can also contact the devs:

    brynn

Inkscape developers primarily use the Devel mailing list to communicate, so that's the best place to introduce yourself.   But you can also find developers on their chat channel.   This page will give you a lot of info about how to get started (with the source code). And the developers who answer your message on the mailing list or chat can give you any further info you might need. (They tend not to visit the forum, so you really do need to contact them in those places.)
