Hello, Thank you for your answer. I really appreciate it!
I have read the problem similar to the link you sent me but in my case no error window appears. I try to explain myself better: I haven't updated the mac yet because I can't stay without inkscape because I use it for my work ... So in the PC I still have Moyave version 10.14.6. I have installed Inkscape -1.0 Beta. It works. Opens the files I saved with Inkscape-1.0 Beta but does not open the files made with Inkscape 0.92.2. I give the indications to open the file and a wheel start to turns to infinity and the program crash (Please, look at the first screenshot).
I also tried the option import file but the program blocks anyway and I have to force the exit ... (Please look at the second screenshot).
The text is too small in your screenshots, for me to be able to read it clearly. But I think I see that the selected file is some number....looks like a 3 digit number, with MB behind it. That's an extremely large file! I'm not surprised if Inkscape can't open it. The largest file I've ever been able to open with Inkscape was 35 mb. Of course I was not able to edit it, but it did open, eventually.
Could you share any place a crashed file top study? Thanks in advance. Dont upload directly here to keep your upload budget sane for new contributions.
As I said, 35 mb is the largest file I've ever been able to open with Inkscape. If you have a file smaller than that, that won't open, as Jabier suggested, please share it, and the experts can have a look at it. It's possible there is a problem with the 1.0 Mac version....
Actually, if you can identify a file which you can open with 0.92.x, but won't open with 1.0 beta, that would be ideal for developers to investigate.
Thanks Windell. Yes, I know, but I didn't see it under the @ menu, and I didn't know how to spell it correctly. But anyway, I finally found you 😛
I haven't heard if large file size is an issue, whether on Mac and/or other systems. I was inclined to report as a Mac bug, but I'm not familiar with how that group wants bugs reported. But I thought you would know.
Marisa_Sias, it looks like this might be a known, but relatively new bug https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/issues/504 I can't understand much about that bug report, but I've asked for a simplified explanation, so we can come up with some kind of solution for you. If this problem turns out to be related, it seems to be not related to file size after all, but something about the code in the file. I'll post as soon as I have more info. Or maybe someone else will be able to explain it?
Correction! I had downloaded the file which Aero fixed. So downloading the actual test file, I can open it easily with 0.92.3. However, trying with 1.0 beta, it's taking so long that I gave up. Whether it wold have eventually opened doesn't really matter. It does appear there's some problem with 1.0 beta.
Hhmm, ok, my request for a simple explanation resulted in a request from developers for more info. It sounds like this is still a lot of a mystery to developers.
Would you please tell us how this file was created? Did you make it entirely yourself? Or did you download it from the internet, possibly editing it yourself later? Was it edited with anything besides Inkscape, that you know of? Did you use any Inkscape extensions when you created it (if you created the file yourself)? If so, please tell us which one or ones.
I'm not sure about your technical expertise. So if you don't understand this next part, just say so.
There's something in the file, in the code, which is theorized to be causing the problem. There are a lot of style tags (which is part of html code). Apparently developers don't know where they are coming from. That's why it would help to know how the file was created, where, with what programs, etc. If you have any idea where the style tags could be coming from, that would be really helpful. But if you don't, we still might learn more by asking other questions.
Thanks for your patience.
Meanwhile, if the file which Aero attached (in message #10) is acceptable for you, that means that these style tags can be removed, and you'll be able to use the files.
Hi, we have solved the problem thanks to @Aero !!!!!
It is not a problem due to the size of the file, in fact today I managed to open a 196 MB file with Inkscape Beta 1.0 without problems. The program crashed due to a style elements stored in the file code.
So I followed the indications of @Aero: I opened the file with a text edit program and I deleted in excess codes and woilà ... the file opens immediately and works great!!!!
Using the last file to create the next file would probably not have caused this. However, it would transfer the same problem to every file.
But just to help developers fix this, you made all the files entirely yourself, using only Inkscape? Any extensions?
I wonder if you have the files stored in the order they were made, by some miracle of chance? I'm just thinking if there were some way to find in which file the problem first started, it might help for developers to look at that one.
I created all the files myself and using Inkscape. For the moment I have solved because I understand how I can access my files even after updating my Mac to Catalina, but dear @brynn I agree that this problem should not occur. In fact I went back, and the older files don't have this problem, but only from a certain point on ... Now I investigate and try to find the file that started causing this problem. Meanwhile, if it can be useful, last year I did a PC change and I switched from MacBook Pro with Inkscape 0.91 installed to this Mac with Inkscape 0.92.2 installed.
The files that come from the old computer have no code problems!
It sounds like the problem started with one particular file, and then without realizing it, you transferred it to all the rest.
The developer thinks it would probably have started with a python script, outside of Inkscape. And then Inkscape was used to edit that image which started by the script. All I can gather from that statement, is that possibly you got a file from somewhere else, at one point. Or maybe you copied something from another file, and pasted it in?
It is possible that all this was caused by an import in the file of some .svg icon downloaded from internet or some .jpg image I use for backgrounds...
At this point, I believe that this is exactly what happened!
Hi,
I need to upgrade my Mac to Catalina but I'm worried about Inkscape.
I tried the developer Inkscape version but it does not open the files created with other versions.
How can I do?
Do you have any advice?
Thanks in advance.

If yours is that same issue, then it's not a problem with the files, it's a problem with file permissions. Inkscape cannot access your files.

Hi, I did some tests and I discovered that inkscape beta 1.0 opens inkscape files 0.92.2, but only small ones. How can I open even large ones?
Thanks in advance.
Marisa

With inkscape 0.92.2 I've never had any problems opening and work with large files...
And anyway in this case Inkscape beta 1.0 only opens very small files up to about 160 KB. 30 MB files cannot be opened because the program crash.
Is there no solution? Please help me... :-(

Yes of curse!!!
Here you find a test file that I created with Inkscape 0.92.2 on macOS Mojave version 10.14.6 --> https://drive.google.com/file/d/19eY__6eytKDoTVZ_8CVvNk04sx8aVWIg/view?usp=sharing
It's only 4.7 MB and when I try to open that file with Inkscape beta 1.0 and always on macOS Mojave version 10.14.6, the program crashes. :-(
I just tested your test file.svg.
On Windows 10, inkscape-1.0beta1_2019-11-12_3dbde4b-x64, i7 8th gen, 32GB ram, this file is crashing Inkscape.
Using a text editor removing all but one of the huge amounts of style elements in the SVG-code, the file can be opened without crashing Inkscape Beta.
Modified file attached.
I was able to open it ok in both 0.92.3 and 1.0 beta (Windows 7).
However, we need Mac developers to have a look at this. I'm not sure the best way to alert them.
I've noticed that Windell Oskay often answers messages about Macs, but I can't find him in the "at" menu. I'll try the chatroom.
Edit
Rats, he must use IRC. I can't find him in the menu there either.
Still trying to figure out who to notify....
Ok, I PM'd him. Hopefully won't be too much longer.
@brynn I'm windell.oskay on chat.
If it's crashing on other platforms besides Macs, it may be a larger issue. I'm asking in the chat channel to see if it's already a logged issue.
Thanks Windell. Yes, I know, but I didn't see it under the @ menu, and I didn't know how to spell it correctly. But anyway, I finally found you 😛

Thank you all for taking an interest in my problem and helping me solve it!
@brynn Thanks a lot for your help and thank at all!
I think I handled the files badly because I always took the last file to create new projects and then the file got overloaded with style elements.
I believe that from now on I will work with templates !!!
Thank again at all!!!
