I'm working on what is basically a snow globe with wings on top; I'm almost done with the wings bit, but I need help with one last step before I can mercifully move on to the next part...

I want to make the wings speckled, like the dragon in this picture. I tried using the inkblot texture, and it came close, but it spreads out messily all over the place and I need something that can neatly sit on top of the individual feathers. (Also it's nice and speckly at the edges, but is still a bit too solid around the middle). Where do I go from here?

    thank you,

    sasha

    help?

edit: cross noise in the filter editor is giving me more or less the right shape, but it keeps going to greyscale, especially when I lower the opacity.
