Beginners' Questions Font not fitting in text box correctly

I am not sure how to describe this technically.  However, using swirly types of fonts, my dropped letters like y will cut off.  Now, when I convert the font to path, the dropped letter appears.  This is not font specific (except for swirly) or size.  Attached is an example of what I am trying to explain.  Is there a setting I have turned on or off?

Hello. Do you possibly have one or more objects on your layer(s) that might not be visible? As in low opacity/transparency? (Or possiby, the fill and/or stroke of an unseen object is set to the same color as your page.)

Suggestion: count all the visible objects you see. Then select all the objects on the page (Ctrl & A) ... then look at the bottom of the page. It should tell you how many obects are currently selected. If that total number does not match your visible count, then you have objects that are not entirely visible to your eye ... that could intefere with what you see, or when you convert your text to path. Also, when you convedt text to path ... even if it is a single character, it needs to be ungrouped ... before being unioned together as a single path.

Also, after you type your text, describe each step you take to achieve your end result where you see the "cut off" portion.

@awolf, this happens occasionally when ascenders or descenders go beyond the font height.

Post a link to the font or share it in a zip file, so we can compare on other Inkscape versions.

@ken10001000  good thinking...the answer is NO.  It appears like that in the snap but I have tried it out on a clean version alone.

@TylerDurden thanks for the reply.  This happens with several of the Swirly fonts, not just one.  But I will make a list....

Ok, well now I am just confused as heck.  I went to make the list and started with the first X swirly:  font 12.  Started playing around with the other fonts, went back and retyped with X font as the same font size 12, and it came out perfectly.....

It looks like a display issue, but no way to test without example font(s).

Describe your OS & version, the version of Inkscape and the installer you used.

Ok I think I am getting closer to a solution.....so far I am getting good results by opening up the Text editor and clicking the subscript

Getting warmer on a solution....I think it has to do with the fonts being OTF not TTF, as I am noticing those are the problematic ones.

@TylerDurden Windows 10 recent inkscape version....installer?  No idea, download, click and it works.

I did not find a solution, but since I am changing the font to an object, I can work around the issue
