I can't select this image in order to edit the lines (Paths?). It is a scan, from a drawing. I just imported it into inkscape, and want to be able to make edits, but when I select the image, I can't select the individual lines. I would like to erase the line that goes up the middle, for instance.
Import the image as you've done, but continue the process by selecting Path, Trace Bitmap (Shift-Alt-B). You can then delete the original image. When I used your provided image, the center line did not capture, making the removal a non-issue. One note, tracing this bitmap results in a vector for the outside and for the inside of each line:
