Can anyone tell me if it is possible to prevent the numbers from merging (without changing the font size)?

I do not think so. The extension is trying to represent all node numbers based upon your selected font size.  You probably have to adjust this so they do not obstruct one another. Try going down a .25 px size ... over and over again until you get a workable result.

Thanks, I'll try to search adjust solutions, my image is very complex, so when I tried  changing font down after printing ther are to small;(
