Beyond the Basics Von Koch LPE

The Von Koch LPE puzzles me. I managed to unravel the mysteries of the old Von Koch LPE in Inkscape .92 with the help of the manual. That LPE was pretty much a novelty, since making factals, including Von Koch, is actually much easier with the L-System extension. The new Von Koch LPE looks like it might actually be useful, but the only help I’ve found for it is a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7LiOCWw42Q

I’ve watched the segment a number of times, but still can’t quite catch how to make use of the various copying and pasting of lines. Unfortunately, Italian isn’t a language I understand, so that doesn’t help, either.

I get the idea of the generations and using the node arrow to change the sizes and positions of the reference object and the generated objects. What I can’t comprehend is how to use the “copy path,” “paste path,” and “link to path” options. I’ve tried various orders of applying these and end up with a mess.

Also, the handles of the lines created by the node arrow tend to disappear, leaving the (immovable) lines only.

    Can anyone help?

Can you link directly to the video times which don't work for you?

Thanks, Maren.  I think I've worked out a bit of it--sort of.  Here are my steps so far. I still have questions, though, as you'll see below.

    1. Draw a star (or whatever object) and two paths (for example, one straight and one curved).
    2. Add VonKoch LPE and increase generations.
    3. Copy the first path with the regular Inkscape copy function, not the one with the copy icon in the Reference line.
    4. Select the star (s).
    5. Click the Link to Path icon on the Reference segment line.
    6. May change stars' size and position because the first path is now active.
    7. Select the second path (e.g., the curved path).
    8. Copy it with the regular copy function in Inkscape.
    9. Click the star(s).
    10. Click the Link to Path icon on the Generating path line.
    11. Now the second path is active.

Is this the method intended?  What I don't understand at all is the use of copy and paste within the Reference segment and Generating path lines.

Oh, and I also don't understand "Use uniform transforms only," which is explained as "2 consecutive segments are used to reverse/preserve orientation only (otherwise, they define a general transform)."  I haven't yet stumbled upon any difference checking or unchecking this box makes. What segments? What transformations?
