I have a big file with dozens of layers and it weighs 80Mo.
It opens fine in 1.0 and 1.1 but crashes 1.2. "inkscape has encountered an internal error and will close now"
I've tried importing into a new file with the same result. I transfered it to a mac with the same result. Other files open OK in 1.2 and an older version of this file with fewer layers opens OK.
Is there a way of finding what it is in the file that causes the crash?
Crashes here on macOS/BigSur as well. I opened it in Vectornator (free macOS SVG editor) and exported as SVG again within a blink of an eye. Affinity Designer export will take forever so I canceled.
I have no clue if that´s how it should look like - if ok maybe get you Vectornator for a conversion:
Thanks for adressing the problem. Is that image with layers. It's all the layers showing at once.
I cant install vectormator yet, have to upgradefrom catalina.
Tried Drawpad on PC but although it was apparently opened, didn't see anything.*. Will try otrher PC options. Am downloading BIGSUR, or I'll stick with Inkscape 1.1.

I solved the problem without really knowing what the problem was.
Trying to open in Gimp gave an error message with a line and column. I deleted the whole tag but didn't cure the problem.
I had several layers which had bitmap images used as guides. I deleted three saving 40Go of 70. Now it works in 1.2
