The home I currently live in was built from a blueprint I created exclusively in Adobe Illustrator CS6. A key feature which made that project possible is Adobe Illustrator's ability to quickly choose between origin points for placing objects with precise coordinates (e.g. top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right, center, etc.). Inkscape appears to lack this feature, and although grid- and/or guide-snapping can often function as workarounds, these tools are much less efficient and flexible at yielding the desired precision than the workflow achieved in Adobe Illustrator. Are selectable origin points slated for a future software update? Are certain features like this ever put forward for targeted donations/fundraising (I'd gladly throw some skin in the game)? In any case, kudos to all who have made Inkscape possible and those who are contributing to future iterations.
Objects can be positioned precisely by positioning the rotation center to the point where you would like to anchor, then clicking on the rotation center a second time... then the location coordinates in the controls bar will reflect the location of the anchor and values can be entered to position the object.
