Beyond the Basics Line effects

    Hi all,

Just wondering if inkscape has the same feature as Adobe illustrator when it comes to line effects:

    • Appearance of round corners, but keeping the original corner node to control the shape
      • Found in illustrator under Effect > Stylize > Round Corners...
    • Appearance of double lines, but keeping the original single line to control the shape
      • Found in illustrator under Effect > Path > Offset Path...

Looking to combine both effects to quickly draw many roads. Like this: https://imgur.com/a/1UJExS8

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Sassafras,

I think the newest Inkscape has some Life Path Effects in that direction. (Ctrl+Shift+7 > click the + button)
    https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/1.0#New_Live_Path_Effects

The new LPE Fillet/Chamfer will do the rounded corners on a line.
You can make the line thicker.
Later on you can change the line to a path with a stroke through menu > path > stroke to path. That is not a life effect.

There is also the LPE powerstroke, but that will not make the inside of a corner rounded.

So, I think it is one life effect or the other.
Maybe someone else knows a better solution?

For the double lines, I'd suggest the (already available) Pattern-along-Path LPE. You can stretch a rectangle along the path like that.

For the thing you seem to want to achieve (the specific case you present in the picture), I would create a rectangle with rounded corners and a stroke, then turn stroke to path and cut that.

Just tried it out, BSpline + Pattern along path works well already. Should also work in the current version (0.92.4):

yes  but you need 1.0 (beta or latest release)
    Path effects:
    - LPE Corners (chamfer/ fillet )
    - LPE Offset
also you don need to use offset just  wide stroke

Beta isn't needed - as shown above in the picture.

B spline is no a replacement for rounded corners you have no control over the radius and also its different geometry than rounded corners

I guess that depends on the type of round corners that you need - if you want to be able to define a radius, then you need the fillet/chamfer LPE, if all you want is to make your corners rounded automatically, BSpline is sufficient.
