my curent project is that i want to get a clean .pdf file converted out of .jpgs. Therefor i use the autotrace tool to create a bitmap. I will have to deal with some fixing work because it always will leave some gaps or works to preciseley so it will open up the lines.
Now i had 6 files i wanted to convert and get them done. Five of them worked totally fine but if i want to get the bitmap drawn from the last one, Inkscape will always crash on me with an "internal error".
Does anyone know how this problem can occure since the other ones worked just fine? Is there a nother way to get a bitmap automatically traced?
Im currentlys using the 1.0 (4035a4fb49, 2020-05-01) version of Inkscape
I dont really get it either since the other files look basicly the same and work but this one just wont. Might it just help to reinstall it? But its such an unusual issue...
Thank you for the file thats safes my day!!! Now i can get to the next phase of my project!!
Thank you but there is a little problem i need it singlelined autotraced like you did before just without the edge option and so on.
With the file right now it will also work for laser cutting but i will have to pay twice the price since its a line with 2 sides and the cutter will run on both of them.
once again i have to reach out to you. It really annoys me that I can fix it myself but there is still something off with the file.
Seen in the screenshot the left one is how i made the other layers look like and on the right is the one from you. Its really rounded up and for some reason a thicker line. If you would be again kind enough to remap it that would be really nice. I also attached the file which it schould look similar to.
this time with a different topic since i dont wanna open one for such a little question as i believe but i have problems figuring it out.
Some info: The Company i want to laser cut my files also wants a border box so they can cut them out of a big panel. Since it will be scaleable i need to make boarder frame. So far it seems like i have to shrink the whole drawing down so that i can put the frame onto the "working layer".
Can you help me with that ... would be much appreciated! If thats possible i also could set up a little talk on discord since speaking about the problem would be much more efficient if thats fine with you.
Conversation in the open forum is better so others can offer solutions and learn.
Layers are infinite, they are like the canvas in that way.
Scale up or down is usually ok, but I would scale to 100% of final size. The scale factor (2X, 4x, whatever ) should be noted; so other files, layers, objects can be scaled the same.
If i safe this file as an .pdf i wont show me the border i put around it. Later on i also have to convert it into a dxf file and i dont have a viewer for that so i must assure that everything is correct in .pdf.
I will look up some guides to get what you told me. This scaling factor would be a good tool to use.
This is a really cool trick ... but i tried it now with a few layers and it only extends the borders but it doesnt seem to scale everything up to that size i want it to.
I want to do it that way now:
1. Create a box 1460x710mm and put every layer that size
2. Create a nother box with 1500x750mm and put it around that one so i got the right measurments

Thank you in advance for you help!
Just to be clear, Trace Bitmap creates vectors from bitmaps (jpg, png, bmp, etc).
What OS and version (eg Win10)?
I know i need the files to be vectorise because i wanna use them on a lasercutter.
Im using Win10 (10.0.18362)
Please attach an example svg file that has the issue.
There you go. The one i cant convert or vectorise and the other one is the screenshot right when the crash happens.
Strange. It works here using .92.x in Windows, and 1.0 in Mint.
The bitmap is still hidden in a layer, in the svg attached.
I dont really get it either since the other files look basicly the same and work but this one just wont.
Might it just help to reinstall it? But its such an unusual issue...

Hello once again,
could you do me a little favor please and retrace the file. I need sharp edges for the perfect layout and so the other files will also match this one.
Thank you in advance!
No problemo.

Oops, my bad.
Here it is.
i have the same problem when try to trace bitmap from a large png (2500x1800) and crash inkcape.
I change randering settings to that:
I don't know if is correct but now i can trace bitmap from large pictures.
I use Manjaro and my ram is 8GB.
I hope this solve your problem.
Hey Tyler,
its still the same problem. In the attached image is on the left how i need it and on the right the one you send me.
Would be awsome if you could redo it.... i tried reinstalling inkscape but it didnt fix the problem. Im not quiet sure what can cause the problem.
Best Regards
Sorry about that - some kind of forum glitch.

Here's the latest trace. I scaled the image up to full size before tracing (I didn't realize Inkscape was scaling it down by default).
You can modify the lineweight on your end.
The jpg I have does not have some of the elements seen in your screenshot, but I expect that is by design.
I don't expect that I can offer much better than this.

How can i change that workspace?

Thanks already!
I suggest installing free LibreCad to check dxf files.
Here is a method to make the box and page an easy size, before saving a copy as pdf / dxf.
This is a really cool trick ... but i tried it now with a few layers and it only extends the borders but it doesnt seem to scale everything up to that size i want it to.

3. Convert then everything into the right format.
Ok ignore that last comment i found the function with ctrl + shift + M wich does the job!
I think i got a good step forward!
Thanks again! :)))
