very new to this. I have followed all instructions and successfully entered all appropriate files into extensions but they do not appear in the menu. What I have noticed is that under the EXTENSIONS tab, when selected, is that PREVIOUS EXTENSIONS and PREVIOUS EXTENSIONS SETTINGS are not highlighted. (They are highlighted in all of the videos that I have watched,) It is just an observation. Any thoughts?

Did you restart Inkscape after installing the extensions already?
These only highlight if you have used an extension during the session.
Yes, I restarted INKSCAPE.
I went thru the whole process twice, which means removing all programs, re-downloading and re-installing with the same results.
I am about to try it all again from scratch. However, I am remembering Einstein's remark about insanity, it went something like this:
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I even tried to install and add extensions on my laptop, which is windows 8, and failed there, too
