How To Draw A Line

brynnHow To Draw A Line

brynn

"New Inkscape users are sometimes frustrated when they search the manual (or forums) for how to draw a line, and can't find instructions. That's because "line" is a bit of a nebulous term, at least in Inkscape....although in some ways it can be confusing in any vector graphics program. What we generally think of as a line, is called a path, in Inkscape. But it's not just a matter of terminology." Read on to learn the basics!

A tutorial for beginners, teaching how to use clones to draw unique snowflakes, which are perfectly symmetrical. The tutorial is copyrighted, but the snowflake image (sf1.png) is CC-BY-NC-SA. https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=27

This is the original SVG file used for creating this screenshot https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/item/5616/ on Screenshots page. Note that because of a bug, the symbols in the SVG file don't show up on the internet. So the symbols for this file (custom symbols, not from a pre-existing library) can be found in the Symbols dialog, and they can be used in Inkscape. But showing on the canvas when you first download, they are just the original paths/groups, so that they show up here in the gallery. Please feel free to download and study :-)

This is the same image as my 2nd submission to About Screen contest 1.0, but with a different color scheme (rainbow colors). Yeah, I might be an old hippie!

I've deleted my original 2nd submission, and replaced with this one (sorry for the extra work, Tim). This is the fun one, while the first was more serious. Except for spirograms perhaps being seen as complex paths (relating to version 1.0 as the most complex version of Inkscape so far) there really is no story to go with this one. It's mostly just for fun....which is why I use Inkscape in the first place - as a hobby, for fun. Fonts: Linux Libertine G and Euphoria Script There's another version of this with a different color scheme that I've put in my personal gallery. Puzzling Inkscape 1.0 - b

Probably the image size is going to be a problem. I wanted to make the puzzle images raster, to make the file smaller, but the rules don't allow that. So this is 100% vector. Probably there are some things in the file that could be removed to make it smaller, but I thought it would be interesting for anyone who wants to look into the file, to see some of the different stages of creating the image (a lot has been removed though). Also the image size seems to be preventing the SVG image from showing properly in the gallery, thus I've uploaded a raster. (SVG file is 2.5 mb) This version with the white background. The puzzle represents how complex Inkscape is becoming now. As the puzzle pieces are flying away, it represents development building and increasing, to reveal the new version 1.0 underneath. Also, the change from summer foliage to fall foliage represents the maturing of the project. (Plus that's the season we're in right now, where I live.) Fonts: Linux Libertine G and Euphoria Script.

I started this when the contest first started and the gallery was empty. I know it's not very creative, but I just wanted get the ball rolling on the contest. Now there are so many, much more creative designs and themes! But what the heck, I might as well submit anyway....I just had an idea with a much more creative theme for "AboutB", but not sure if I can finish in time. We'll see :-) For using new features, I used the new Object Manager extensively. Love it! I used the Perspective/Envelope LPE on the larger text.
