it is very frustrating when we finish typing stroke width and press "S" key to select tool but inkscape start typing S in the textbox. the same situation occurso many times when we just want to exit out of all things quickly so a consistent way for those things is to assign global hotkey combo to rule them all and i find Ctrl+RMB pretty convenient and used in other applicaitons as well.
i know it but this is the suggestion to improve the workflow as i find useful in other applications as well, especially useful if you have to use shotcut keys a lot with "Ctrl and shift" key as pressing esc key break the workflow completely.
Also Right Mouse Button is used in many application to cancel the action but alone RMB can't be used but Ctrl/Shift+ RMB can be a better choice. if anyone knows or have some idea on how to do that please share your thoughts and i will start working on it, otherwise i think Autohotkey is my only choice but for the benefit of all community people i think this workflow will make inkscape tools consistent. even illustrator change selection tools by these keys.

Hit "esc" to exit - then "S".
