When I select the PDF file I imported into Inkscape and then do Path>BitmapTrace a window opens!
I then click on update and nothing happens and no image shows on the right pane of the Trace bitmap window?
Fort some reason trace bitmap isn't working for me 😟
Anyone know what I am doing wrong

It´s called "Trace Bitmap" for a reason. PDF like SVG are just containers - so if there´s a bitmap in your PDF find and select it (check menu->Object->Layers and Objects plus Status Bar) and proceed with Bitmap tracing.

so for these layers to be acceptable in AI, How do we know that we did the Trace Bitmap correctly?
How do we know we used the right Trace bitmap settings in the process ?
I´d try Inkscape1.2 which got an overhaul for the UI. You´ll get automatic live updates when altering settings for instance.
