I'm using Inkscape lately to draw simple draws, icons, and so on to include in my powerpoint presentations. Inkscape is a great software.
Here on this video on YouTube https://youtu.be/TbiA7c6ggzw this guy uses Inkscape and make some beautiful shapes (from 0:50 - 3:00)
Well, I've tried to reproduce the shape using all the steps that he demonstrate but the result was totally different.
He drew an hexagon, drew circles on the hexagon's vertex, delete hexagon, combine all the circles (Path>Combine), draw a rectangle and send it to back, select the rectangle, hold-on the shift key and select the circles combined. Menu Path>Division.
The results is supposed to "split" all the parts of the combined circle but my results was a mess and the Inkscape didn't behave like I expected. See attached pictures of the shape results (youtube video and mine)
I'm using Inkscape last version 1.1, Installed via *.exe file, on Windows 10 (21H1), notebook/desktop.
Any assistance will be helpful. Thank you very much.
It seems somewhere in the workflow, the circle paths wound up with duplicated nodes. When I use circles with only four nodes, the operation is successful.
Thank you for the tips @TylerDurden . I've already notice that and close the circles but the result were the same.
I tried to install Inkscape with .msi file instead the .exe file but it didn't work. Same results.
But one step that I missed and thought that was no problem is Fill the shape with some color. See attached file the steps with filled shapes. It behaves in different way (correct me if I'm wrong please).
Apparently works well. Another point is to draw the circles one in front of the other forcing with "in front" tool.
It depends of the way that you draw and construct the shapes you'll get differents results. There are some imperfections points but I removed them.
I'd like to inform that last update of Inkscape v1.1.1 works very well and the problem mentioned above to make some circles and so on now is gone. I unistall old version and install the new one.

That is amazing.
I have been trying to do that type of division for ages, I didn't know it was as simple as just drawing a rectangle around it and using division !!
I worked for me on Linux Inkscape 1.1+
Many thanks for posting.
I'm not sure why it didn't work on windows - but thanks for posting
Worked here:
Inkscape 1.1 (c68e22c387, 2021-05-23) OS version: Windows 8.1
Installed via .msi
No problem.
I tried to install on Windows 7 (x86, 32 bit) but the results are similar. A little bit better, but it doesn't work. Strange. I will try other ways.
Anyone knows if the developers read that or if there is a way to reach them with this problem? thanks.
Devs might not be much help at this point, since we haven't been able to reproduce the issue.
Please share an Inkscape SVG file in the state just before running the path division operation.
Bonus points if you can share a screen recording demonstrating the issue.
Some developers are trying to find better solutions for that feature, which is except difficult as the chat history in June already shows:

@betobon, Please share an Inkscape SVG file in the state just before running the path division operation.
It is possible there is a difference between the .exe build and others, but the file will be helpful regardless.
Ok. Thank you for the answers.
See attached svg file of the steps to make the shape like the video shows. Hope it will helps.
In the mean time I'm going to try to uninstall the .exe version to another one and see if this problem disappear.
Best regards.

Ok, I found it... the circles are arcs (not truly circles), they are only 359.5 degrees around. In the combine operation, duplicated nodes result.
