Objective: Cut out an image of an ornament using an SVG file.
The problem: The line is so thick that it cuts out an outer edge and then an inner edge; whereas, I only want it to make one cut.
More detail. Select Image > Patch > Trace Bitpath. Selected edge detection. Because the line is so thick, it selects the outer and inner edges.. I would prefer to have only one of the two but I am not sure how to accomplish this? I am sure it is an easy fix but I can't figure it out.
Tyler, thanks so much for the advice and taking the time to respond. When I tried it I has some stray lines. Simply put, it looked like the edge of the image had three tumors and trying to use the nodes to adjust them was a headache and impossible for this novice. However, I did find a solution. I filled the image in with color and then it selected only the inner line that I wanted. At least I think that's what I did. I hate not knowing what I am doing but it got me through this project.
I have no idea how to phrase this.

There is an option: Centerline Tracing... I'd explore that.
