    Hello,

I have a jigsaw puzzle with a missing puzzle piece.  I would like to laser cut the shape for the missing piece.  I have a photo with the surrounding pieces.  Can anyone help me take this photo and have inkscape "trace" the outline so that I can laser cut the piece that is missing.

I tried "trace bitmap" in the path menu, but the trace is not coming out as well as I'd like.  If anyone has better luck with the settings for trace bitmap, or another way to trace out the missing piece so that i can cut it in my glowforge, I'd appreciate some help!

    Thanks.

This is crude, but you'll get the idea.

I've been trying this out, but I'm not sure if I'm using the right tool.  I am using the tool to draw Bezier curves.  But it keeps creating straight line segments instead of curves as shown in his video.  I see in his video he selects "Pen" but I don't see that option in my menus.  I was able to create a layer but I don't know which tool to use to trace the missing piece.  Any insight would be appreciated.  (sorry I'm very new to Inkscape).

There's more than one tool that can be used.  I use the bezier tool.  I tend to draw a rough line sketch of the object first, then while in the node tool, select the nodes that make up the rounded parts, and click on auto smooth, that will round out the circular parts.  (You can click on each node you want to chg by itself or select several nodes at once).

I used the technique that creates smooth nodes while drawing with the Bezier pen, by dragging slightly at each successive point.

Either way works, make smooth nodes as you draw, or make straight lines and smooth the nodes after.

To be honest, for me  anyway, it's easier to do a rough draw with the bezier, i think a lot of newbies find that method easier to start... i guess i learned from a video.

    Tyler is a guru btw!
