For fonts to show up in Inkscape, they need to be installed on your operating system. If you're using Windows 10, you'll need to take some special steps (unfortunately, it's a problem with Windows 10).
If I understand you correctly, you're probably looking for a feature called Text on Path.
type text
draw the path
select both
Text menu > Put on path
I can think of something else which might also be described as "arched text". So if that's not what you want, please try again to describe it, or maybe provide an example we can look at.
Thanks for your quick response. I was trying to create an arched text that I could learn to use on several projects.
I can see that the learning curve will be huge with this program, but as I have worked with a few simpler programs like it, I should be able to get it done with some practice.
I was able to figure out how to select text and font. However, I have fonts installed on my PC that do not show up in Inkscape.
Pushing forward, I was able to figure out how to draw a path with the calligraphy tool. Not the best option probably but still just trying it out.
So, I had the text typed into the design area and the drawn path. I figured out how to select. However, I could only select the text OR the path, lol.
No, Calligraphy tool is definitely not right for putting text on a path. Use the Pen or Pencil tool to draw the path. Switch to the Node tool to tweak it after you draw it, if needed.
To select both the text and the path, either hold down the Shift key, while you click on one and then the other; or drag a large selection box around both at the same time.
See the Learn menu in the top-right area of this forum. That gives you some good first steps for learning the basics of Inkscape.
@UnoU1it You will need to install the font a bit differently, until version 1.0 is released. Instead of double-clicking on the TTF or OTF file to install it, right-click on it. Then choose Install for all users. That will allow you to use it in Inkscape. After version 1.0 is released and you install it, you can install fonts normally. (I don't know when it will be released. It sounds like it could be at least a few more months.)
I am a Windows 10 user, and can confirm the bug is fixed in Inkscape 0.92.4 (e23c7ed, 2020-01-28), named 0.92.x on the official Inkscape download page.
@brynn How do I curve my text without a line. Or how do I make the line invisible. I can make the fill/stroke disappear but on outline mode it still shows?
I am new to Inkscape and wonder how to make curved/arched type? also, do I need to directly import my favorite typefaces into this program?

Regarding the font, are you on Windows 10?
Thanks for your tips so far :). And yes, I am on Windows 10.
After extracting to folder, you need to find folder you extracted to, then click "install for alll users"

Explained in more detail by Inkscape developer Patrick Storz in this forum thread.
