I have free rotation of objects or anything but I would want it to rotate 45 degrees of some sort but there seems to be no option to do it.
You can constraint rotation by a given degree adjusted in Preferences by holding alt or ctrl key down - status bar will tell you.
Hi. Simplest way is select your object/path. Then access the Transform Tool ... Object > Transform > select the Rotate Tab. Enter your desired angle.

I won't call it simplest as you need to switch tools, but the advantage of constraint rotation the object directly is you can adjust the pivot point to your liking.
