Hello! I am a brand new Inkscape user having an issue with clipping an image imported from a PDF. Clipping causes the original image to disappear and be replaced with the color of the shape I am using for the clip. I was able to clip successfully the very first time I tried it but it stopped working and has not worked again.
Things I have already tried:
verify both the shape and image are selected before setting clip
verify the shape is on top of the image
mess around with the properties of the shape (opacity, etc)
reset inkscape preferences in settings menu and restart
import a PNG image and try clipping it for comparison - this worked fine, so I think the issue has something to do with the properties of the image imported from PDF. The very same shape will clip a PNG image properly but fail to clip the PDF.
This is the simplest possible clipping scenario, literally all I am doing is importing a PDF and then trying to clip it with a rectangle. Brand new Inkscape download running on Windows 10. The attached screenshots show what the file looks like before and after clicking object>clip>set clip.
Thank you for this comment! I had been just clicking the "raise to top" icon in the toolbar to bring the magenta rectangle to the top. Your comment made me poke around more, looks like I needed to go in the layers and objects tab and manually move the whole layer containing the rectangle to the top. I didn't realize that the rectangle would be drawn in a different layer from the image. Thanks!

Thank you in advance for any help!!
Seems your rectangle you're using is not on top of the objects you want to clip.
That is definitely not my problem, you might need to look at both screenshots (they uploaded in the opposite order so the after screenshot is first)
That doesn't change the fact that the magenta rectangle needs to be on top to work as a clipping path.
