I am trying to break apart this flag path into pieces. I would like to be able to move each flag piece separately. when I select the flag, Path/ Break apart, all of the stars turn black. Why does this happen? How can I stop it from happening? Thanks
Your first flag is a single black-filled shape on a white background. The stars are internal sub-paths that define holes in the external flag sub-path. When you broke apart the sub-paths, the newly separated shapes were all assigned the same black fill as the original flag. Add a stroke colour to see the shape boundaries then select the stars and change their fill colour.
