Just type your query into the search box at the top right. If you don't get results within the forum, Google may help you find what you need. Or, just ask your question here in the forum, and we'll try to help.
Generally, working through the Inkscape manual is a good place to get a firm understanding of the basics. Here are a couple of links...
I'm posting a year later and the search tool seems almost useless. More specifically, can anyone tell me how I search for my own (very few) posts please?
Yes the search tool is a joke. But to get to your own posts is easy by clicking on your name which will get you to your profile from where your Topics and Comments are reachable.
Thanks Polygon. That was the first thing I did and my post was not there. UNSURPRISING, as I eventually realised it was the FreeCAD forum in which I’d posted!
How do I do a search on Selection Tool Not Working or something like that? Lucie

I don't think the forum search tool works, at least not for me.
Regards google you can limit your search to a specific site or domain etc using the following format :
search term .site: site or domain
So to only search the inkscape site and search for layers using google would be :
layers .site:inkscape.org
If there are issues with the forum search, can you report them to @doctormo (ideally via https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/-/issues)?
Note the search by default only includes subjects but you can switch it to search whole posts:
