Just checked how many people were live on this forum just now. I’ve never ever been the only member online in a forum before. Is this a dead forum? Thanks.

I have been using a Liyu SC631 with Inkscape to cut vinyl for a few years, under the Ubuntu operating system (currently 18.04).  I have generally left the settings at the defaults.  Under connection settings I have put serial baud rate to 2400 and serial flow control to none - I can't remember why now, but these seem to work for me.  I changed serial port to /dev/ttyUSB0.  I had loads of problems getting this to work - I used to get an error message about "permission denied" but after much internet searching got over this using the following command in Terminal "sudo chmod a+rw /dev/ttyUSB0".

I control the speed and pressure from the control pad on the cutter itself.  I cut vinyl at 26g, but what works for you will depend on what it is you are cutting.  Things seem to work fine at a speed of 800mm/s, but as I am not under time pressure I usually set the cutter to 100mm/s.

There seems to be some problems with bugs in the Inkscape 1.0 Export/Plot extension - see the "HPGL output goes crazy" thread.  I have gone back to using 0.92.  The problem with 0.92 is the issue described by me in the thread called something like "Cutter cuts when returning to origin".  Fortunately @tron came up with the answer to that, but it does mean editing the extension file.

Volume on this forum is low, as use of Inkscape for driving vinyl cutters seems to be pretty niche.  The more interest we can keep up in this particular use of Inkscape the more likely it is that it will continue to be supported in the future.

I hope this helps - I would stress that I am not any kind of computer guru just someone who does some hobby cutting of vinyl and so I can only tell you what works for me and what I say might not necessarily be good practice.  In particular, I cannot help on using Inkscape with Windows or on a Mac.

Forgot to say that before cutting you need to convert objects to paths and ungroup them.  I cut mainly lettering, so I always have to use "object to path" and ungroup everything - sometimes having to do several ungroups to get rid of all the groups I have built up.
